Feb 10/11/12/13 Meteors

After almost a week of clouds, rain, and even a little snow in Tucson, clear weather has returned. Though with a series of storms moving either over or near the region, clouds will still be a problem from time to time.

Two of the last three nights were clear (especially in Tucson). Rates remain low which is a combination of February’s usual low rate of meteor activity and the bright Moon which is hampering observations during the last half of the night.

I live in Lenoir City Tennessee. My mother in law called me and said that she saw an orange ball falling from the sky. She said it looked like a ball of fire. What do you think? fireball? meteor? We are located in east Tennessee. It happened on 2-13-09 at about 10:15pm.

  2. C. Zierden Febuary 14, 2009 says:

I live in Loveland ,Ohio and saw the biggest blue, green object fall
last night approx. 10:00pm 2-13-09 . The color was different from any falling star I had ever seen. It was larger than any I had seen before. my family all think I’m seeing things, I was so sure of what I had seen I was wanting to run across to the next street to see if anyone else had seen it. We are located southwest Ohio, outside of Cincinnati.

Hi, same story as above(R Farmer). Larger than normal glowing yellowish orange. It appeared to fizzle out slowly like an old flash bulb. I am located in Orleans, Ontario, Canada, and saw the same thing between 10:10 and 10:20pm Feb 13th.

  4. R Farmer says:

A Russian and a USA satellite crashed together Tuesday 2/10/09. I read that NASA is monitoring the skies after two satellites crashed into each other over Siberia.

I wonder if this is what we all saw?

I was taking my dog outside sometime between 10-1030pm, Feb 13, 2009. It was a very starry night and I was looking up at the stars. I suddenly saw a bright orange/red round object, appeared to be on fire, streaking across the sky. My first thought was that it was a meteorite. I have never seen anything like it before. It had a long firey tail trailing behind it. I live in Pickerington and saw this in the sky to the south/south-west. It streaked in a downward motion and at about a 30-45 degree angle. It lasted for probably 8-10 seconds. Was incredible and felt like a long time! It seemed to disappear as it reached about housetop level.
I was just looking online to see if anyone else had seen something like this. I saw something about 2 satellites colliding in outerspace and people in Texas had reported seeing similar things. Could what I saw have been parts of the satellite???

I live in Shelbyville, KY. and saw the same abnormally bright blueish green ball looking east on Feb. 13th, 2009 at approx. 10:00 EDT that was seen by C. Zierden in Loveland, Ohio (#2 above)… It seemed larger than most you see and I swear I thought I could hear it

  7. Kara says:

Also from Lenoir City, TN. Husband and I outside at little after 10 pm and saw a bluish green ball of light fall from sky. It was very beautiful. We figured a meteorite.

  8. Kara says:

Ooops. Same person as above. Forgot to say it was on 2/13/2009 as others reported.

I was driving in a very well lite part of Cincinnati around the North College Hill area around 10:00 PM on 2/13/09, and me and my friend saw the same blue light falling out of the sky. It flew like a meteor, but it looked like a ball of bluish greenish flame. I’ve seen meteor showers and such before, but nothing like this! Cool stuff.. but what was that?

  10. P Hanna says:

I was driving in a southern direction from Timmins, Ontario, Canada going to North Bay, Ontario. I saw the largest object falling from the sky approximately 7 PM – 8 PM. Burning a bright red/orange colour. I couldn’t really get a good look as I was driving at high speeds on a road full of curves. As with others above, I too figured it was part of one of the satelites involved in the aforementioned colision. Early evening, on the 17th, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada approximately 5 PM – 6 PM, my wife, children and myself spotted approximately half a dozen objects falling leavng a dark black trail of thin cloud. We coul donly make out a blaze of light leading on only one of the objets. What I find “funny”, for lack of a better word, is that I couldn’t find anything regarding these objects in any news reports. Hmmm.

  11. R Farmer says:

2-17-09..Ok, I was watching Fox News this morning and there was a Physicist named Michio Kaku on that said the fire ball that was seen over Texas (I assume what we all saw) was a meteorite the size of a pickup truck. He also said that this happens about once a month and that they usually hit the ocean. He also commented that we are due every 100 years a “city buster”, meaning a huge meteorite. He said 101 years ago in Siberia a city buster hit and wiped out many miles of tundra and forest. He also said luckily most city busters hit the ocean but that in 2029 and 2036 we have a reason for concern because there is a piece of rock the size of the rose bowl that will skim beside the earth that it will be so close that we will be able to see it with the naked eye as it flies right overhead.

I saw a green meteor February 15 in Kentucky at about 10:00 pm it was large and seemed to move slower than a normal meteor.

I saw a green comet falling in the sky at a somewhat remarkably slow pace just east of downtown Lubbock, TX at roughly 1am on April 27th, 2009

  15. Cynthia Behr says:

At 1:24 am on Friday, June 18, 2009, My friend Stephen and I witnessed a large, bright green ball of fire falling from the sky. It was irridescent, it seemed and changed color almost like Aurora Borealis but it was a falling ball. It appeared to be falling behind clouds, but it was one of the clearest nights, no clouds in the sky; stars were bright last night. We were driving from the west into Manitou Springs, CO. The object fell on the other side of a mountain ridge. When we drove around to find where it fell, there was a cloudy streak in the sky for some time after the object fell. Does anyone have information about where this meteorite or whatever landed?

I saw the same thing this past saturday night & have been researching but I cannot figure out what it is. The only thing was I did not see a cloudy streak afterwards. My blog is # 17, Shenette if you want to read it. If you hear anything please let me know. I am very interested.

On Saturday, 8/29/09, almost midnight, I was in Tallahassee, FL, in the country with a friend talking when we noticed a bright green object (like a big round rock) falling from the sky with a white light outlining. It was falling slowly and lasted for at least 5 seconds. It was very mindblowing to me & I could not figure out what it is. I’ve been trying to figure out what this is and cannot find any explanation or anything that looks even similar to it. If anyone has an idea or has experienced this as well, please let me know.

On Friday, 9/25/2009 in Aurora, Ohio..I saw a “bright neon green ball of fire” falling from the sky. It was about 8:45 pm when I was driving and looked up and saw it. The area where I was driving is a big area..with a small lake and it was very dark. This was something not to be mistaken for a shooting star. This object was much bigger. About the size of the a full mood Id say..I also remember a little bit of orange and red, but 98% NEON green! It fell from about the mid point of the sky and came down diagnally. Im wondering if anyone has any explaination as to what this could have been! I was in absolute amazement and shock when I saw it.

  19. william armstrong says:

We saw a green ball go across the sky at 9:15 GMT. This was just outside Omagh, (heading towards Belfast) in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. It was only in view far a few seconds and disappeared towards the east,

  20. william armstrong says:

Forgot to say that was tonight Friday 12th February 2010 when we saw it.

My husband and I were driving in Mt. Morris near Wautoma, Wisconsin. We were out away from the lights of the city and we both saw a large glowing green ball falling out of the sky! It was cool to my husband, but freaked me out. I was scared! I can never seen something like that before! There was no noise….it was just there, like a movie. I didn’t not see it all the way to the ground. It happened on Wednesday April 14, 2010 just before 10PM. Anyone else see this?

  22. tiffany modugno says:
